Deniz Akgul is a Managing Director in the debt advisory and restructuring group at Gleacher Shacklock where he was a founding member.
In his role, Deniz originates deals and advises boards, companies, creditors and shareholders with challenging capital structure issues in performing, stressed and distressed situations across corporates, real estate and infrastructure assets. Deniz has advised on a broad range of situations across jurisdictions, industries and capital structures involving leveraged loans, HY bonds, credit default swaps, securitisations, asset backed debt and investment grade debt often structuring new money investments to assist with liquidity, stretched refinancings or growth capital within what is permitted under existing finance documents or as part of a post-restructuring capital structure. Implementation of deals involves both in-court and out-of-court processes.
His experience includes Aeroporto di Roma, Artumas, Concordia Bus, Cory Environmental, eircom, EuroDisney, Fairhold, Four Seasons Healthcare, Galapagos, General Healthcare Group, Global Ports Holding, NHP (Titan 2007-1X), Nobina, Norske Skog, Northern Offshore, PPC Cement, Punch Taverns, Seadrill, Tele Columbus, Thames Water, TopToy, Waterford Wedgwood, Yorkshire Water and Zinc/Hilton Hotels.
Prior to joining Gleacher Shacklock, Deniz was responsible for investing in distressed debt and event-driven situations as part of the broader European credit book at BlueCrest Capital and Brevan Howard. He was also a founding team member of Houlihan Lokey’s restructuring business in London.
